ARTISTIC GYMNAST KELLY UNVEILS NEW LOOK STORE

Ribbon Cutting Ceremony with Kelly Simm

British artistic gymnast Kelly Simm was on hand to perform the honours when a ribbon cutting ceremony was held to celebrate the introduction of a Post Office Plus service at a SPAR store and pharmacy in Hampshire.

Kelly, whose home town is Whiteley in Hampshire, travelled over to nearby Horndean for the ceremony. As the 2015 Summer Universiade all-round champion, vault silver medallist and floor bronze medallist, the Commonwealth Games contestant was a popular choice to unveil the new services at the store.

Last year, she won the Portsmouth News Sportswoman of the Year award - and her mum Heather works for Everetts Pharmacy, who operate 11 pharmacies throughout the south of England, including the one at the Horndean store.

With the local Post Office in the village shutting down, the Horndean store now offers the local community modern Post Office facilities, convenience grocery shopping and pharmacy all under one roof.

The SPAR store and pharmacy relocated across London Road in Horndean into a new retail unit on the old Gales Brewery site at the end of last year. The size of the SPAR store trebled, with the pharmacy area expanding considerably at the same time. It is now an integral feature of the overall in store convenience offer, rather than the separate one it was previously.

Fresh fruit and vegetables, chilled and frozen foods, beers, wines and spirits and a food-to-go area with tables for customers and Insomnia coffee are key features of the new-look SPAR, which is managed by Mark Gauntlett.

Opening hours of the store are 7am-9pm Monday to Saturday, and 7am-8pm on Sundays. Sue Ullmann, sales and marketing manager for Everetts Pharmacy, said: "With these opening hours, the incorporation of the Post Office in the SPAR store will be a tremendous benefit to people in Horndean and will bring additional custom to the store at the same time."
