"The Payroll department not only deal with the on-going payroll processing of the Appleby Westward staff," (says Clare Parkin, Appleby Westward's Payroll Co-ordinator) they also work with a large number of our retailers who outsource their payroll to Appleby Westward'.
Retailer Tim Roberts has opened a new store in the centre of Barnstaple, ten years after he acquired his first SPAR store in the town.
Along with SPAR regional distribution company Appleby Westward, Tim has co-invested in the redevelopment of the former Londis store in Boutport Street, Barnstaple, close to the Queen's Theatre.
"I wasn’t consciously planning to expand, but when the opportunity arose to acquire this small town centre store, I immediately realised its potential and decided to invest in it," said Tim.
Tim joined SPAR in 2005 when he bought the former BB Stores in Newport Road, which he developed successfully under the SPAR banner. When he bought it, the store was in a poor condition but he recognised its potential and has built a strong trade among the local community. Now he aims to do the same with the Boutport Street store.
"There is a high level of footfall in Boutport Street and I am confident the store will trade well under the SPAR fascia," said Tim. "The premises were very rundown when I acquired them, but we have completely changed the look in keeping with this historic part of Barnstaple, as well as carrying out a high quality refit."
The store has been completely refurbished to provide customers with a wide range of chilled and hot food, freshly ground coffee and a wide range of grocery and licensed products to meet the needs of the modern convenience shopper. The National Lottery has also agreed to install a terminal in July.
"I recognise the importance of this part of Barnstaple and have developed a store very much in keeping with the area," said Tim. "At the same time, I have recruited five new full and part-time staff to help provide a first class service for convenience shoppers in the town.""""""
