STORE PAIR RAISE FUNDS FOR HEART CHARITY

Home Learning Pays Off For Becki

Two women from a SPAR store in Hampshire have raised £2,253.61 for the British Heart Foundation following a tandem skydive.

Whitney Biggs and Chelsey Gates raised the money in memory of Chelsey's father Dave, who died two years ago from a heart condition at the age of 45.

They jumped 10,000 feet from an aircraft at the London Parachute School in Reading and raised the money thanks to donations from friends, family, employees and customers via a collection box at the SPAR store in Eastney, Southsea where they work, and the Jolly Taxpayer pub, which was Dave's local.

"We wanted to keep my dad's name shining brightly and raise money for the British Heart Foundation to enhance their research in helping those others who suffer with heart problems," said Chelsey.

Footnote: Becki Toms, daughter of the Eastney store owner Howard Toms, has passed a Pearson BTEC Business Administration Level 2 Diploma, funded through Pride in Pompey. Becki studied for nine months on a home learning basis. She said: "I decided to take the course as it was the next progressive step for me in my learning, having already gone as high as I could in the NVQ of retail and retail management."
