A food tasting day was held at a Cheddar SPAR store where sales figures for a successful food-to-go range continue to show healthy increases.
The event was held at Gary and Julie Chivers’ Crossroads Service Station to mark the introduction of new lines in the food-to-go area, including hot and cold wraps and tascas, a roast beef and horseradish roll and a roast pork and stuffing roll.
The store has also introduced a baguette of the day at an offer price to encourage customers to try the whole range, along with a hot beverage and bacon or sausage bap offer which has also started in store.
Sales figures on food-to-go in the store were up 11.8% from August to September this year alone, and showed a year on year increase of 22.6% to September.
Food-to-go business at the store has grown significantly at the store following a refit three years ago which included replacing an existing serve-over unit with a turboserve.
The store has a reputation for breakfast rolls, baps and turnovers, pastries, rolls, pasties, filled baguettes and other bakes. It also has a popular coffee offer and chillers nearby stacked with sandwiches and fresh products.
The reputation has been built by the dedication of Shirley Panes and her assistant Eve Murray who run the food-to-go operation with guidance and advice from Alex Schute, AWG Fresh Food Manager. Shirley believes that having a dedicated team in charge is the key to sales success. “It is essential to invest in time and to have someone in overall control to ensure the operation is run properly and efficiently,” she said. “It is also important that you keep your offer fresh, so that customers are not seeing the same thing day in and day out.
