SPAR retailers have been recognised by National Lottery operator Camelot for reaching the milestone figure of £1.2 billion for National Lottery Good Causes since the National Lottery was launched in 1994.
SPAR received two special awards in the shape of Milestone Achievement plaques from Camelot after raising the money from sales of the National Lottery products in its stores across the UK.
SPAR UK Managing Director Debbie Robinson, who accepted the plaques on behalf of SPAR, said: “We are delighted to receive this award from Camelot, and are absolutely thrilled to find out just how much money our retailers have contributed to the Good Causes.
“£1.2 billion is an incredible achievement and I am very confident that our SPAR retailers will continue to raise even more money for the Good Causes, making a huge difference to their local communities and the whole of the UK.”
Duncan Malyon, Camelot UK Lotteries Ltd Sales Director, who presented the award to Debbie Robinson, said: “Raising £1.2 billion for the Good Causes is a fantastic achievement by SPAR.
“Everyone at SPAR should feel very proud that, with the support of their loyal customers, they’ve raised this tremendous amount of money. National Lottery-funded projects are helping to improve communities throughout the UK – but none of this would be possible without continued hard work and enthusiasm of SPAR retailers.”
Each week Camelot raises over £30 million for National Lottery Good Causes. Since its launch in 1994, The National Lottery has now raised over £27 billion for National Lottery Good Causes, with more than 370,000 individual awards made across the UK. From small local grants to large capital projects, that’s an average of 120 lottery awards for every UK postcode in the UK.
Also in National Lottery news, Camelot is urging SPAR retailers to continue to act with vigilance regarding under-16 sales.
Camelot runs a programme called Operation Child which aims to prevent the purchase of National Lottery tickets and Scratchcards by people. A Test Purchase Investigator accompanies a Test Purchaser, who is 16 or older but has the appearance of someone under 16 years of age, to conduct tests in stores.
Currently, Spar stores see a first-visit failure rate of 11.23%. Retailers are reminded that they stand to lose their Lottery terminal if they fail on three visits.
