Two pupils from a local primary school has the honour of cutting the ribbon to officially open a new SPAR store in their village.
The new store in Wembury, near Plymouth, had undergone a comprehensive refit after converting from Londis to SPAR and young Dylan Smith and Jess Ward won a colouring competition at their school for the privilege of declaring the new-look neighbourhood store officially open.
The two youngsters were immediately impressed by the wide selection of sweets, soft drinks and snacks the store had to offer!
The open day was a great success, attracting many local residents. Children enjoyed a bouncy castle and free tastings that were on offer throughout the day, while staff and customers raised an impressive £105 for the local school through the sale of raffle tickets, cakes and competitions.
The 900 sq. ft. store is the 59th SPAR in the Gilletts Callington Ltd stable. Managing Director Mark Gillett said: “The opening was a great success and it was fantastic to see people turn up for the official opening and see how the store had developed in just ten days.
“The store now offers the local community a state-of-the-art modern SPAR store with all the latest equipment and furnishings and we are sure everyone will enjoy it over the months and years ahead.”
A new shop front with electronic doors makes the store much more accessible and uses the latest materials to give it a great ‘feel’ the moment customers enter. Hundreds of new lines have been introduced in the chilled fresh range alone, increasing the display from a two metre cabinet to a 10 metre unit. This includes a fresh meat area that sells freshly-delivered meat from local award-winning butchers, Moonstone Meats.
There is also a chilled area purely for the sale of fresh produce which, wherever possible, is always sourced from South West farmers and offers an excellent selection at very competitive prices.
The store is packed with a fantastic range of grocery products that will satisfy both the local community as well as the large influx of holidaymakers that use the nearby surf beach and nearby National Trust walking and visiting areas all year round. Food-to-go, freshly baked pasties and pies, sandwiches, rolls and wraps, Boston’s Coffee bean to cup and an off licence are also strongly featured in the store.
Mark added: “With the open day now behind us we hope the locals, holidaymakers and the commuters will really take to the store, and begin to see us as that one-stop destination, where they can get all their everyday essentials or maybe just that freshly baked Rowe’s Pasty and fresh coffee.
“With our new opening hours of 6am to 9pm every day, the store will be open when customers really need us most. The manager, Callum Fairnie and his team, are really looking forward to welcoming both regular and new customers alike to their new-look SPAR store.”"
