"The Payroll department not only deal with the on-going payroll processing of the Appleby Westward staff," (says Clare Parkin, Appleby Westward's Payroll Co-ordinator) they also work with a large number of our retailers who outsource their payroll to Appleby Westward'.
A petrol forecourt shop in the New Forest has been reopened as a modern SPAR store after a major refurbishment scheme.
The store, at Hordle Garage near New Milton, has been converted from a small 550 sq.ft. shop, increasing its size by nearly 60% to create a contemporary convenience destination for the local community.
Owner Sean Denman, who has run the garage business for the last six years, said: “Our customers love what we’ve done, I’m over the moon with the end result, the Appleby Westward team have been great in putting the whole project together.”
The store redevelopment was a co-investment project between Sean and Appleby Westward, involving extending a former stockroom area and making the best use of the other available space.
Early last year, Sean had got to the stage of thinking the time had come to do something with the shop when RSM Mike Burnett walked in and asked him if he had ever thought of changing the shop to a SPAR.
“My experiences have been more garage orientated than shop and I appreciated SPAR’s expertise,” said Sean. “Mike and I got on well and I found everyone at Appleby Westward very good to deal with and we took it forward from there.
“SPAR is such a recognised brand and in our part of the New Forest we attract lots of holidaymakers and of course SPAR is known all over the world. As a result, customers trust the brand and know what they are getting. It seemed natural to go forward with them.”
The store now offers an expanded chilled offer with fresh meats, a wide range of fresh fruit and vegetables, an extended grocery offer, food-to-go, bean-to-cup coffee, a better display of news, magazines and cards and a variety of promotional offers.
“I’m really glad we made the change and am very excited about the offer we now have available for our passing trade and the local community,” said Sean.
