"The Payroll department not only deal with the on-going payroll processing of the Appleby Westward staff," (says Jo Hounsell, Appleby Westward's HR Director) they also work with a large number of our retailers who outsource their payroll to Appleby Westward'.
Appleby Westward has invested £500k in its Our Best Price initiative to drive loyalty – and for Adrian and Michelle Hitchcock, it has paid dividends.
The couple, who run a SPAR store in The Square, Kilkhampton were fully supportive in getting behind the Our Best Price incentive scheme and believe the difference it has made makes it important for Retailers to back the offer.
The initiative was introduced by Appleby Westward to build loyalty and drive wholesale prices down, involving the price reduction of several products across a number of categories, benchmarked against Tesco, Booker, Nisa and the Co-op. It has been fully backed by the Wessex Guild.
An audit of stores held earlier this year to examine the overall performance of the scheme showed that average
participation in the scheme was 62%.
Adrian said: “We have another
convenience store within 200 yards of our own, and it is important to use as much POS as possible to give the visual impact needed to show customers the deals we offer.
“It’s better for business to get the stock turning over with lower margins helping create more cash flow and customer return rather than have product on shelves with higher margin not moving so quickly.”
He said sales had increased immediately when prices were dropped, and had continued to do so with very significant upturns particularly across categories including beers and spirits, and hot drinks.
